These short days of frustration has spawned this piece of writing. It is often said that 'causation doesn't imply correlation'; in this situation please trust this author and accept that sometime a number of things can end up with a result. The reader must consider another saying, which is in conflict with the first; and another saying being 'a death by a thousand cuts'.
Just for clarity, this author lives in the upper northern hemisphere and as such, at the time of this writing the days are just starting to get longer and hopefully soon, warmer. Till the sun returns the impact of that 23.5 degree angle makes things nice again, this author is going to go on a bit of a rant. Please enjoy...
Rant-1) The purpose of the Canadian Senate is to mediate the efforts of Parliament to ensure that no law is put in place in haste or with regard to those who only voted for the current party in office. The Canadian Senate is a safe guard against a majority government, a stopgap or firewall as it were, towards keeping safe the citizenry from the politicians.
A few years ago, the Prime Minister of Canada announced the idea that there are no values identifiable as Canadian values. That statement gave this author some consternation. When a country has no values of its own then the question must be put forth; where does the country derive the law from. In Canada the legal foundation is derived from English Common Law and over the last 150 some odd years that legal theory has been tweaked to fit Canada. The foundation supports the house but it does not dictate the house.
If there are no Canadian values, why is there a Canadian Senate?
Rant-2) The COVID-19 case numbers show that there are more people who have been vacciniate against COVID then those who have not been not been vaccinated. Yet, the un-vaccinated are the ones being demonized for being the dangerous ones.
While the governments are constantly claiming their activities are there for the greater good. Many of these same governments also seem to lay claim to the noble goal of protecting the under represented, the down trodden because of population density, This begs the question - when the vaccinated out number the un-vaccinated in both numbers of the population and those infected, when will the government treat the ideal to seek to protect the minority rather than vilify them?
This begs a new question; is the government and society principled or opportunistic. A principled environment has few items on the rule list whereas an opportunistic environment needs to set a vast number of rules to allow every opportunity to be denied. This author asks the reader to please consider the number of rules they live under.
Before its ruin, there was a Dr. Who episode called 'When a Good Man Goes to War', where in the villain states they are not afraid of the Doctor because good men have too many rules. The Doctor's response is that good men don't need rules.
Rant-3) A couple of years ago it was stated that a number of graves were found near a charter school; this resulted in an apology from the Pope after some condemnation from the Canada Prime Minister and the burning of a number of Christian churches. To the best of this authors knowledge no child's body has yet to be exhumed and no grave has even been confirmed.
The last residential school closed in 1996, Pierre Elliott Trudeau was the Canadian Prime Minister from 1980-1984. In the current social political climate where the atrocities of the past are dragged into the present this author is left asking why are the statues of the former PM have not already been mothballed by his socially sensitive son the current PM of Canada?
Rant-4) Knowing when to give up on a bad idea is almost at par with having a good one. These words of wisdom were presented from a friend at the time whom happened to be a lawyer and philosopher. These principled words have remained stuck in this authors mind since the soft and gentle voice uttered them. As a tangent, one thing back then which built some worry was wondering what it would take for that philosopher, lawyer, and friend to be made angry.
Returning to COVID-19 and the ideal of the 'greater good'; for lack of a better term, What The Fuck (WTF) are these societal leaders thinking? Two weeks to flatten the curve has been turned into two years. Businesses where told not to worry and yet now so many mom and pop stores have gone away while the big box stores were allowed to thrive. School age children, during their prime learning years missed out on both education physical activity and socialization.
From a social and educational perspective the current round of K-12 students have metaphorically been crippled for life; where is the greater good writ large in the activities as demonstrated by the results? With COVID-19 vs. because of COVID-19 is still up for debate and the numbers are being adjusted around the world on per country basis.
This author will ask again, where is the greater good? In previous writings, by this author, it has been posited that the application of bad ideas only comes from two sources, stupidity or malicious intent. This is an open invite towards the politicians to pick column A or column B.
Rant-5) This rant element is more personal, as much as it is based upon the intended structure. This author has taken up the stance of the impersonal. This author's name is readily available by structure and as such if the reader wishes to share a thought they can just copy and paste and if they wish to provide the idea as their own that too is welcomed. This writing is just words, yet words carry meaning and thus puts forth ideas. The author is inconsequential when compared to the words and the ideas.

Rant-6) The return of the snow. Snow has returned to southern Ontario reminding this author of their youth. The last decade or so has made soft the young and new Canadian citizen. This prompts a closer look at weather change claims. These claims of change seem to be a simple return to the days of yesteryear within the current climate argument. Is a person who complains about the temperature drops and the volume of snow still be allowed to complain about climate change? Of course they are, for all people should be allowed to show off how 'smart' they actually are.
Perhaps the problem is the time frame within the declaration for claiming climate change is made. This author recalls when the predictions were over 30 years out when the end of days announcements where made; and now those same affirmations keep getting closer and closer to this the current year.
