Some Problems Can't Be Solved

Not In My Backyard, otherwise known as NIMBYism has become a mainstay attitude for many in Western society. Dinner is a decent metaphorical reference for this attitude, in that everyone needs to eat and yet there will always be a consequence to the consumption of food. Regardless of the method of acquiring the meal one will have to deal with washing dishes, disposing of the packaging the food arrived in or a combination of the two. NIMBYism is typically not applied to washing dishes where as the packaging problem is often offloaded to others.

Of course the reader must realize that garbage is a fact and that if it is not in the 'backyard' of person A it will by necessity have to be in the 'backyard' of person B. While NIMBYism is a real thing it stipulates the bigger problem of garbage generation. For example in the city of Toronto people are not allowed to include black plastic containers in their recycling and yet food vendors are allowed to sell their products in black plastic containers. The obvious answer to black container recycling is to halt the containers at the start of the source.

Recently the article, Toronto’s hotel shelter policy is wreaking havoc on residents, emerged on the hotels turned homeless shelters in the city of Toronto. The article features some of the local home owners and residence giving their opinions on the shelter and what impact the shelter's occupants have had on their neighbourhood. Much like the packaging, leftovers and food scraps these occupants of the shelter are not wanted anywhere near by. These people in the shelters are allocated  to a social position much like the scraps and the packaging resulting from eating dinner, for this is yet another problem that can not be solved.

While homelessness is the problem that can't be solved the current NIMBYism doesn't stem from homelessness as the people living in the local hotels, which have been converted to shelters, have simply been the homeless as the homed at a much higher density. The reader should consider this idea borrowed from the advertising industry, repeat the presentation of your product often enough and that product stays front of mind for the masses. Due to the concentration of the now homed homeless, the traditional locals have taken note and they don't like what they see day in and day out or even hour in and hour out depending on the day.

The tantalizing conundrum, as with most things in life, is sorting out the balance of what is good and how things are perceived. Consider the perspective of the local property owners who diligently paid their taxes year after as they watched their property value grew; only to have those same tax dollars be used to devalue that same property in which they invested. Another aspect of the conundrum is the pseudo-caste society that is being built; those that produce nothing are being supported by those who do, thus causing an encouragement towards the attitudinal position of - why should anyone bother when the people who don't do and yet still get by, mind you with a lower standard of living. The driving down of the standard of living has now been made manifest and palatable for even more people.

The drop in the standard of living has not been limited to those individuals being housed in the shelter, as their personal attitude of apathy extends beyond their own fingertips. The neighbourhood has suffered an increase in petty theft via shoplifting and broken windows; a local restaurant has a sign on the door asking for a cessation to the window smashing. Also, restaurants and bars have hired security or additional security to ensure the comfort of the patrons in attendance. Between the insurance deductible and the security guard payments, the knock-on effect being that business costs have gone up and those costs need to be passed on the client base else the business will cease to be viable; this author believes that the actions, by the shelter residence, has caused localized inflation.

Recently a number of warnings have been issued by Police providing local residence safety tips within their own buildings. Some of these tips include: check the elevator before entering, be cautious of people following the resident into their building, a resident should lock their own door even if they are simply dropping garbage down the chute on their own floor. The police are by law representatives of the government and so this author is left asking the question; did the government knowingly put the local residence into a position of danger? Additionally, this author would happily take a one thousand dollar cheque as one of the hundreds who are being impacted by the political decision; so long as the resulting total was drained from the endorsing politicians' pockets.

For to long the politicians have hid behind the public purse and choices should have consequences else the choice becomes flippant.

Post/Long COVID, an Examination and Opinion

The NEWS media outlets have been telling people about Post COVID, otherwise known as Long COVID, and for some the name seems to be a bit confusing. This article intends to provide some information and commentary on Post COVID.

Post COVID has little to no relationship to the actual virus, the side effects from the virus or any side-effects from the vaccines as some of those topics have been both widely and not so widely addressed. Post COVID is all about the mental state of those who were instructed or ordered to wear masks and lock themselves off and on for two plus years by all levels of Government. These instructions and orders, including threat of fine or imprisonment, or a combination of both were levied across the board at all of the citizens.

There is another group of citizens who by Government mandate live in conditions similar to what the Governments did to the citizens at large and those are the inmates in prison. The similarities in this comparison are strikingly similar and as such it should come as no-one's surprise that the mental outcomes would also be strikingly similar. In the table below there is a side by side comparison between the incarcerated and those who have Post COVID symptoms.

Post COVID (Long COVID)

 Inmate

1) Fatigue
2) Memory problems
3) Sleep disturbances
4) Shortness of breath
5) Anxiety and depression
6) General pain and discomfort
7) Difficulty thinking or concentrating
8) Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
A) Persistent sad, numb or empty mood
B) Loss of interest or pleasure in activities
C) Increased or decreased appetite
D) Insomnia or hypersomnia
E) Psychomotor agitation or retardation
F) Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
G) Diminished ability to concentrate or think
H) Ever attempted suicide
I) Persistent anger or irritability
J) Increased/decreased interest in sexual activities

* See sources below

One of the columns has been lettered and the other numbered for easy cross referencing purposes. Before moving  forward, there are some big words that the general population may not understand. Here are the words that this feels will help the reader to know:
Psychomotor - relating to the origination of movement in conscious mental activity
"her birth and psychomotor development up to five years of age were normal"
Hypersomnia - the inability to stay awake and alert during the day despite having more than an adequate amount of nighttime sleep.
PTSD - Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

In looking at the table one can see that some of the symptoms populate both side of the table. As an example, once the fancy words are stripped away, there is the ability to reference both columns with a number-letter combination. For example; 1|D aligns Fatigue and Hypersomnia are basically both describing the same condition of always being tired regardless of how well a person sleeps at night. Of course there will standalone items on each side of the table and some of those will be opined upon as it is unfortunate that the Canadian Government decided to include some PTSD symptoms in the overall list.

1|D) Has already been explained and so on this combination no further commentary is required.

2|7) Line item #7 covers a broad swath of topics on both lists. There is seemingly a lack of diversity on the Post COVID side of things, although inclusion seems to be running rampant as some of the line items can be collapsed into a single yet more complicated topic.

3) This line item is one of the standalone items due to the ambiguity of the words used. The questions that need to be asked here are is it the sleep that is disturbed or is the sleep that is doing the disturbing?

4) This line item is another standalone item because there is no cause given. Shortness of breath can easily be attributed to many reasons such as; lack of exercise, panic attacks, increased smoking due to stress, etc...

5) This line item covers almost all of the Inmate line items, though A, B, C, I and J are easily associated.

6) Once again there is an overly vague description, much like line item #4, that has been put in as a place holder.

7|G+E) the numbered line item is the result of the two lettered line items, while G is almost identical to 7 the lettered item E does put a little more meat on the bone because Psychomotor skills require both cognitive ability and memory.

8) Shell Shock, the great great grandfather of PTSD from the Great War, was a simple term that adequately described the conditions that those solders lived and died under. Battle fatigue was the great grandfather of PTSD circa WWII, once again describes the situation under which the solders existed. A few generations later and when the gestation period was complete PTSD was born. PTSD has become the umbrella term for people who can't seem to deal with an uncomfortable situation.

The Commentary:
At first blush, the concept of Long COVID, things look pretty good in that the Government is showing care and concern. The problems start to surface when a comparison is made to the prison system and the similarities rise to the surface. The Governments have admitted that the general population was effectively incarcerated without any due process and a total disregard for mental health.

At this point, this author is going to borrow a tactic from the political Left, by claiming gas-lighting based on the acts and words of Governments in that Government only wants wet robots and not any actual thinking people. There seems to be a concerted effort to lower the intellectual bar so far that people are expected to do just as they are told.

Considering the ambiguity of many of the Long COVID 'symptoms' the net has been cast both wide and deep to drag people into victim status. Much like COVID-19, the general population is being put on its back foot as confident people are much harder to control. Once the nanny-state gets its foot in the door of more and more households and those households, in the pursuit of ever more support, will vote for the 'helping hand' party thus cementing the position of power for a few more years.

Another vote for the helping hand party is gained from those who are placed in the service of the nanny-state. These civil-servants as they are referred to, will always vote for the nanny-state, as it has become their support structure in a way that is very similar to the people on welfare, with the only difference being that the civil servants have to provide the appearance of doing some actual work.

There has also been an across the board rising call for censorship. This can be seen in what has been referred to as 'cancel culture' at the level of the citizenry and as Bill C-11 in Canada at the Federal Government level, which allows the CRTC to become the curator of Canadian content on the global public Internet on the behalf of the Canadian Government.

So now, both the carrot and the stick have been identified. The carrot is the re-allocation of other peoples' money seeing as the Government has no cash of its own and the stick is censorship. This author, in a fit of sarcasm, finds it entertaining that through coercion and censorship those who claim to be progressive are halting progress through coercion and censorship. When everyone has settled for a lack of labour existence they will become sedate and with censorship no-one will feel any validity due to the enforcement that all men ARE an island. In short both the carrot and the stick promote isolationism.

Is Thinking Critical?

We call them smart phones, but why? There is no evidence that these modern day phones have any quick-witted intelligence or that they can grow beyond their current state on their own. The word 'smart' has been co-opted and dumbed-down. This has caused a spin off effect to society where people abdicate their own smartness to the phone that acts as the conduit it provides to the public Internet.

It can be easily noted that many people will walk down the sidewalk focused on their phones to the point were they will cross the street without the benefit of looking both ways. Some people will even take their phone to the bathroom.

No-one seems to learn anything any more and even worse no-one seems to understand the how something does or does not work or even the why someone would want it implemented. When a person no longer understands how the world around them works they can no longer seek a way to improve it. Hence, creativity falls away to mimicry, thus signaling the end of the Socratic method and the promotion of  Sophistry, not just in a moment but in the over all general discourse.

Problem solving is a key aspect of a happy life for many people for a number reasons. People take on a sense of pride when they accomplish something and that accomplishment typically follows the resolution of a problem. Another importance of problem solving is the easing of one's life or the life of others. Thirdly, problem solving allows one to realize when they are being lied towards, because by knowing how to connect the dots, there are a number of ways to lie, there is lie by fact and lie by omission; as these are some the two most common, knowledge of problem solving is the answer which is politely called 'connecting the dots' or 'critical thinking'.

Exaggeration is technically a lie by fact and is typically considered what is known as a 'white lie' because when the seven pound fish becomes an eight pound fish in the story no-one really cares, though when the NEWS reports 'Mrs. Lincoln for the most part enjoyed the play she attended' one can see the difference which is an obvious lie by both omission and fact. It historically has been the job of the forth estate to inform the people of the acts and actions of the government at all levels along with significant events; local, global and everything in between. The Press seems to have stopped being held to task on their traditional promise.

It has been said that if you don't believe in God you can believe in anything; this is the next vector of this writing. There is of course a number of ways to look at this saying and this saying has been brought up before by this author. A community that is unified in their beliefs will feel some trust with their neighbors and so they will walk into an argument with at least a bit of an open mind compared to how they approach those who they know are ideologically opposed to them.

Returning to the connecting the dots ideal; by means an example, which is the current US inflation rate and so for this exercise we will be using the President of the United States - Joe Biden. Pres. Biden upon taking office went on an anti-Trump crusade including though not limited to the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline and re-raised the regulatory controls on drilling. The last of these two actions removed the energy independence for the USA, while the first action put a halt to an energy safety net. The next step was to drag on lock downs cutting back on the production and the ability to move goods both onshore and around the country. Finally, there was the stimulus checks sent out to those who were not working.

For the month of May, 2022 the inflation rate for the United States was marked at 8.6%. How this happened all starts with oil and its price. Due to the supply the price of oil was around $25.00 USD per barrel on January 20, 2021 and as restrictions were put in place the production shrank thus raising the price of oil. At the time of this writing the price of oil was $122.00 USD per barrel, a rise of $100. Of course it can be assumed that with the lock downs that as gasoline supplies rose the price would drop and yet that didn't happen as the regulatory restrictions coupled with reduced worker numbers, due to vaccine requirements did not make and significant increase in production.

Back to supply and demand, this time it is about the money supply. When more of a currency is dumped in to the system the value of each dollar declines especially if the their is little to no increase in the output of value for the manufactured goods or commodities within the system.

In short, inflation is the result of: a) a dilution currency value, and b) an increase in prices due to increased costs. The price of oil adds to the cost of the transportation of both raw and finished goods, commodities, and that fixed costs are not fixed anymore due the devaluation of the currency. All of these factors will lead to higher overall operational costs thus resulting in higher shelf prices for the consumer.

The Great Replacement Theory

The word Theory is an interesting one as it is used as a placeholder for; 'that which not yet been proven', or  'that which has not yet been reveled' though it has, as word recently been abused to mean it is just a misguided fantasy. Every theory does require a certain level of reasoning and critical thinking. The Great Replacement Theory is not a myth, it is just much broader than most people realize. This paper try to stitch together a number of activities to show that the theory may be coming to realization and it is up to the reader to decide.

The current darling of the political Left in regards to Replacement Theory is racially based.  This theory has sprung up in mostly the Western countries and the is grounded in the idea that people of European heritage are being replaced by people from Sub-Sahara Africa, the Barbari cost, the Middle East, South Asia, and Eastern Asia. One simply has to look at the migration patterns of humans across the globe that a replacement is taking place though it is not necessarily race based in as much it is culture based. The cultural replacement is the bigger problem, especially if you liked the country you lived in a decade ago.

The Western world, the world of the Enlightenment, is or at has striven to be possibly the greatest exhibition of personal freedom this world has ever seen. to point, Briton banned slavery in the entire Commonwealth many years before the United states of America fought a civil war over it. Yet to this day slavery does still exist in some countries and it is these cultures of the author speaks. It is recognized by this author that many people will move to those countries that embraced the Enlightenment because the culture in their home country was not to their taste. The question the reader should consider is where is that migrant who disliked the culture of their home country to go when they find themselves surrounded by that very same previous culture arrives into their new neighborhood.

Has anyone looked to the numbers of demographic change due to migration and consider if perhaps the word theory can now be dropped. Also, the reader is encouraged to consider and look into who is funding much of this migration.

Moving on...
Another aspect of Replacement Theory that needs to be recognized is the replacement of the family. The familial replacement has been ongoing since the 1960s with intention, in many sectors of society regardless of how one wants to carve up the society has been gutted by the governments, Main Stream Media and the Activists when it comes to the ideas of both fatherhood and manhood. Womanhood has also been under attack because women are now being positioned to be men; via work load and goal seeking. Women were not made free or happy, they were made taxable.

This author will leave it to the reader to decide if men and women are different and for the most part are not entirely interchangeable; this idea is on both the physical and the emotional levels. When small children are are given the option of a doll or truck, the majority of girls go for the dolls and the boys will go for the truck or some other 'thing like' toy. So why is it that a task, any task, when assigned to both sexes the outcome is expected to be identical?

It should also be noted that around this time that what was being lauded as high art was for the most part bereft of the human form. Art began symbolizing consumer goods, shapes and colours. The humanity had been wiped clean from artwork, once again the dehumanization continues. The reader needs to be informed that in Mao's China, the majority of the population were issued grey clothing all of the same style, once again dehumanizing the population.

The famous Mona Lisa was recently defaced by a male climate activist who dressed up as an old lady in a wheelchair to gain front of the crowd access to be able to toss the cake. Miss Lisa is fine by the way due to bullet proof glass.

2001 a Gender Odyssey...
While things in this section were not kicked off in 2001, an intriguing section title seemed called for. The latest step in the Great Replacement Theory is the promotion and implementation of gender re- assignment surgery. The process for boys is kicked off with the application of Lupron®, which is a drug issued to criminals for the purpose of chemical castration as a hormone blocker; this forces the young male's body to halt the production of testosterone. If the process reaches its ultimate goal the primary reproductive organs are removed and the subject of the process is placed on estrogen treatments for the rest of the subject's life.

On the female side, the operation includes a double mastectomy and phalloplasty where a penis and scrotum is created by a combination of muscle and skin graphs. The womb and ovaries are removed during the process. A regiment of testosterone drugs are then prescribed fro the rest of the subject's life.

In both cases the, subject is rendered infertile after the medical process is completed. If the reader is reeling from the mental images created then the next piece of information, many locations that allow these sorts of operations, allow the chemical treatments are allowed to be started before the 'patient' can legally drive a car. Additionally, there are a number of doctors who support this type of work by throwing the pledge to do no harm and shifted to scooping up the approximately $70,000 USD.

Both Carl Marx and Mao were mentioned earlier because they where the proponents of Communism both literally and figuratively. Culture groups like BLM, modern day Feminism, LGBQ+ the Trans lobby, and ANTIFA are all 'progressive' organizations. For this author, the main thing that is missing is the end point to their progression or will things just keep being changed until people will start lopping of limbs such as an arm just because that person's 'identity' can only be satisfied with willing amputation. Also, on the sexual front, involving children might become a normalized common practice.

Some think the great replacement theory is just a dog-whistle for the racially bigoted? It is the opinion of this author that the theory has wider social and culture challenges within the western world.
